The Free Associated State of Puerto Rico is located in the West-Indies and includes the islands of Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, Mona, forming the group of the Great Antilles. The territory of Puerto Rico is under the jurisdiction of the United States, but it is not their integral part. Puerto Rico has its own Constitution, as well as the right to self-government and legislative power.
Puerto Rico covers an area of 8.9 thousand square kilometres. The population is about 4 million people. The capital is San Juan. It is a free export-industrial zone, attracting investors from all over the world. Most companies involved in international business are concentrated in the capital of Puerto Rico, as well as in other major cities.
Advantages
Most of the companies registered in the territory of the state make up the industrial sector of the United States. A number of American enterprises moved their production to Puerto Rico, thereby reducing labor costs and getting rid of high tax liabilities. American corporations continue to open their branches in Puerto Rico, transfer production capacity and register new enterprises.
The main benefits of doing business in Puerto Rico are:
- a fairly long practice of tax exemption;
- low cost of company registration;
- lack of visas for Americans;
- exemption of the population from income taxes;
- high per capita GDP.
