In January 2024, an agreement was signed between Panama and Eurojust, which obliges the countries to exchange information that will help fight criminal activity.
Eurojust is the EU agency that links 70 countries in the field of international justice cooperation. Panama is the first Latin American country to sign this agreement. The Republic of Panama connects South and North America, and information sharing will be an important step in the fight against cross-border crime.
The Agreement enables the exchange of strategic, legal and technical information, including information relating to criminal law and practice, practical difficulties, best practices and lessons learned in the area of judicial cooperation in criminal matters.
Information cannot be transferred to third parties other than those specified in the agreement without written consent.
