The Republic of Mauritius and the island of the same name, with an area of 1865 sq. km., is located in the western part of the Indian Ocean, near the East African coast. 900 km from Mauritius lies the island of Madagascar. The legal system of the state is based on ambushes of French civil law, supplemented by elements of English law. The population is more than 1 million 200 thousand people. The capital is Port Louis. The official language on the island is English, but most of the locals speak French and Creole. The monetary unit is the Mauritian rupee.
